Terms and Conditions

  1. Clients agree to be bound by these terms and conditions by accepting our quotations or by replying to our emails, where there are electronic links to these terms and conditions.
  2. Formal design documents, reports and calculations are issued by us following the agreed remit and completion of our internal design checks. Our technical issues are endorsed by a chartered structural engineer. This is to allow us to provide all our designs with PI to our direct clients. Our liability cover is subject to full payment and submission to the local authority / independent agent for B Regs approval (for residential property) and lasts for six years. We must be informed of the approval. We may recommend the client at the time to issue up to date drawings with additional requirements not covered by previous checks or to carry out certain structural enhancements.
  3. Our clients and agents working on their behalf are responsible for submitting accurate information on a reasonable timescale. Failure to do so may result in delays and may incur additional or project cancellation fees.
  4. Building Regs checks, Part A, are carried out by the authorized party only.
  5. We do not offer practical standard construction advice as part of the supplied structural analysis. Additional site visits, temporary works design or professional supervision on-site can be arranged separately.
  6. Contractors are responsible for carrying out dimensional and practical arrangement checks in existing structures, in order to be able to build and price projects accurately before commencing work. Approximate dimensions are valid for structural sizing may not be accurate for construction.
  7. Construction drawings can be issued as part of a different remit once the primary structural engineering design phase has been approved. This helps to clarify any remaining issues and is highly recommended.
  8. A contractor, or any other designer or third party appointed by the client, may approach us to endorse his proposed arrangement. Note that those requests have to be in writing, specific and accompanied by a plan and a fully detailed document, including a record of drawings and date of issue. If the proposal is not part of our remit, the review will be chargeable and constitutes an independent check covered by our professional liability. Endorsements are accompanied by a certificate.
  9. New proposals or changes mid-project and associated reviews may be chargeable. Once a design has already obtained a building regulations certificate we reserve the right not to continue work if the final arrangement varies substantially. We reserve the right to stop working on a project if we find that basic safety measures are not in place or that guidance on structural safety is purposely ignored.
  10. Payment provisions are agreed upon during our appointment. Enquiries from third parties will require a deposit or full payment in advance in order for us to commence work. Site visits are normally chargeable.
  11. We mobilize our resources the best we can and work in a timely manner in order to offer practical structural solutions to our clients. The submission of new plans by the client prior to our delivery date will usually require a few days for the additional information to be reviewed and incorporated into our design. The agreed deadlines may not be met.
  12. We reserve the right to defend our image and commercial interests. Unpaid invoices may be charged up to the rate set by the county court rules. The client will be liable for the costs of recovery.
  13. Unjustified project cancellations will result in a 30% charge of the total fee plus any time already spent by us or programmed time that can not be reasonably allocated to another job. Figures will be taken from approved invoices.
  14. Structural assessment reports are issued with additional terms and conditions in connection with report ownership, liabilities and distribution. All intellectual property rights remain the property of RCSSS. The client undertakes that it shall not disclose the materials to third parties unless they were connected to the project directly.
