Terms and Conditions

ACCEPTANCE: Clients agree to be bound by these terms and conditions by accepting our quotations. Our emails have electronic links to check them while corresponding with us. The right to be provided with the services is not transferable.

  1. RCSSS issues formal design documents, reports and calculations following the agreed remit and the completion of our internal design checks. Our projects are endorsed by chartered structural engineers and backed by our insurers. Note that draft issues are drafts for information only and are not valid as designs. For projects over certain amounts, tailored additional cover can be arranged.
  2. Our liability cover is subject to full payment and submission by the client to the local authority or independent agent for building regulations. certificates (for residential property) and lasts six years. Building Regulations checks are to be carried out by the authorized party only, the council or an independent agent, not the client or anyone acting on his behalf.
  3. Our clients and agents working on their behalf are responsible for submitting accurate information on a reasonable timescale.
  4. ON-SITE ADVICE: We usually do not offer practical, basic general construction process guidance to non-construction professionals as part of the supplied structural analysis or designs. Additional site visits, temporary work designs, or on-site professional supervision can be arranged separately. Professional, experienced contractors can approach us anytime for clarifications or advice, and must do so as soon as possible. We do not offer ´hot´ advice on-site, meaning that during a site visit, we can not comment on the final result of a design or anticipate the results of a report. Site visits are generally chargeable.
  5. DIMENSIONAL CHECKS: Contractors are responsible for carrying out dimensional and practical arrangement checks in existing structures in order to be able to build and price projects accurately before commencing work. Approximate dimensions are valid for structural sizing but may not be accurate for construction.  The Client acknowledges that RCSSS may use construction specialists or surveyors to fulfil the provision of the services and to grant access for additional site visits if required.
  6. CONSTRUCTION DRAWINGS can be issued as part of a different remit once the primary structural engineering design phase has been approved. This helps to clarify any remaining issues and is highly recommended for complex projects or new builds, usually once building regulations have been approved, in case construction drawings were not included in the original quote. Some designs do not require detailed construction drawings; they only require section sizes and a few additional details.
  7. A THIRD PARTY appointed by the client may approach us to endorse his proposed alternative arrangement. Note that those requests must be in writing, specific and accompanied by a detailed document, including a record of drawings and the issue date.
  8. INDEPENDENT CHECKS: We carry out independent checks on third-party work, and the outcome is covered by our professional insurance. A certificate of liability accompanies endorsements.  All our designs are reviewed internally by carrying out internal meetings.
  9. CHANGES: New proposals or changes mid-project and associated reviews may be chargeable. Once a design has obtained a Building Regulations Certificate of Conformity, we reserve the right not to accept substantial changes from the original remit.
  10. PAYMENTS AND DEADLINES: Payment provisions are agreed upon during our appointment. Project orders may require a deposit or full payment in advance (for enquiries from third parties) for us to commence work. Site visits are normally chargeable.
  11. WE MOBILIZE our resources to the best of our ability and work in a timely manner in order to offer practical structural solutions to our clients. The submission of new plans by the Client prior to our delivery date will usually require a few days for the additional information to be reviewed and incorporated into our design. The agreed deadlines may not be met in such cases. The Client acknowledges that the Company may use our team members to fulfil the provision of the services monitored and supervised by RCSSS. We reserve the anonymous use of some project information to promote structural safety.
  12.  RECOVERY OF UNPAID FEES: We reserve the right to defend our image and commercial interests. The Client may be liable for the recovery costs of £105.00 admin fee for overdue invoices after 30 days and other reasonable recovery charges. Failure to keep the payment provisions may result in delayed or suspended support, project cancellation, and financial claims. If a client uses his work email address to represent himself as a trusted individual, we reserve the right to chase the company he has used to represent himself for any unpaid amounts until clarification is received.
  13. CANCELLATIONS may result in charges. This is in accordance with published advice from citizensadvice.org.uk. ´Business will keep what´s necessary to cover the cost of services provided until cancellation´. Where the Client is a consumer within the meaning of The Consumer Contracts Regulations 2014 (“the Regulations”), the Client has the right to cancel within fourteen days from the day the contract with RCSSS is started.
  14. Following an APPOINTMENT and within the first 14 days, the Client agrees to RCSSS commencing the services and acknowledges that the appointment date constitutes commencement by us within three working days before the inspection time, as it may not be feasible to allocate the planned time to another inspection. Suppose the cancellation is made within three working days from the scheduled inspection time: The Client grants RCSSS the right to make charges for the services already commenced, which may include desk-study time but limited to the inspection fee part of the invoice.
  15. For cancellations following a completed inspection, cancellation fees will result in charges equal to the hours spent until cancellation, as recorded in our timesheets plus the inspection fee.
  16. REPORTS: Structural assessment reports and drawings are issued with additional terms and conditions in connection with ownership and distribution.
